Home Cooling

Today the home owner is under constant pressure to go green. The effects of global warming could one day have an irreversible effect on the planets climate and condition. Home cooling systems, depending on their type help to contribute to the CO2 emissions and eventually the greenhouse effect.

No one wants to endure the intense heat of the summer without some method of cooling the home. However, no one wants to be directly responsible for killing the planet. Fortunately there are natural and very effective methods of home cooling.

Believe it or not insulating the home is one of the most effective ways to help keep it cool. Insulation is most commonly associated with keeping the home warm in the winter. However, good insulation especially in attics acts as a very effective home cooling system. Heat travels upward so in the summer months the attics and upper rooms of the house are generally the warmest. Insulation will keep the heat contained within the attic so it doesn’t radiate down into the rest of the house.

Many home owners are surprised to hear that the colour of their house can affect the temperature. Darker homes tend to absorb the heat from the sun. This can then send the heat into the other rooms of the home. A natural home cooling method is to paint the home a lighter colour. Lighter colours actually reflect heat outwards keeping it from entering the rooms of the house.

Another natural home cooling method is shading. Various methods exist and can save up to 40% of the homes energy costs. A very effective method is landscaping. Planting trees and shrubs provide natural shade which will keep the suns rays from entering the home. Landscaping will also make the yard outside the home look great and contribute to the environment.

Finally, placing shades of light collared material is another effective home cooling method. The shades will block the sun’s rays from the home and the light colour will reflect the rays away from the outer coverings. Shades will help keep the home cool without harming the environment.

Home cooling is vitally important, especially to those living in extreme climates. Home air conditioners are usually the most convenient option however they are not the most ecological. Natural home cooling is possible and environmentally safe. Natural home cooling can also make the outside of the home look great and reduce energy bills.
